The McKinley Park neighborhood's Chinese-American community and many friends celebrated the end of Chinese New Year festivities and the start of the Year of the Rabbit at the Lantern Festival, held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the McKinley Park field house.
A packed house enjoyed back-to-back performances from dancers and musicians in the field house auditorium, as well as numerous stations representing local organizations and offering activities for all ages. So many people were in attendance, the crowd at times also packed the field house lobby and spilled out onto the front steps of the columned edifice.
Presented by the Midwest Asian Health Association (MAHA), the Chicago Chinese Culture & Arts Society and the Chicago Park District, the festival and bazaar featured song and dance, calligraphy, tea rituals, games, arts and crafts, and a raffle co-presented by Illinois 2nd District State Representative Theresa Mah.
